How to make a small room look bigger
Small rooms often get used for junk or storage as many homeowners don’t know how to utilise them correctly, here we give a few tips on how to make the most of your little rooms:
Add a big mirror
This is the most obvious way to cheap your way to a bigger room, not only does it create the illusion of space but will help to bounce light around the room.
Emphasise the height of the room
If you have a room with small floor space but high ceilings emphasise the vertical appeal by selecting tall furniture and accessories or vertically striped furnishings.
Choose light colours to decorate the room
Bright, fresh decor will make a room appear more spacious so paint the room white or in pastel colours. This doesn’t mean the room has to look sterile you can add splashes of colour with accessories.
Be clever with your storage
Obviously with a small room you aren’t going to have much space for additional storage so you need to opt for furniture with storage built in. Sofas and beds with drawers beneath are perfect examples.
Get furniture to fit
If your room has limited space because it is an awkward shape invest in furniture that will fit into the nooks and crannies of the room making the most of the available floor space.
Use as much natural light as you can
Remove heavy, thick curtains and replace with sheer fabrics that will let light through, this will help to illuminate the room and make it appear less cramped.
